인천 서구청은 2019년부터 ‘스마트에코 시티’ 구축을 표방하고 총괄건축가 제도, 공공건축가 제도를 도입하여 도시를 변화시키는 노력을 시도해오고 있다. 일상 속의 작은 변화들이 모여 스마트 에코라는 도시의 새로운 모습이 만들어 지기를 기대하였다.

한편, 서곶 근린 공원은 인천 서구에 위치한 주민들의 일상적 여가 및 휴게공간이다. 인천 서구청은 이곳 축구장에 위치한 노후된 관리사무소 전면부에 스마트에코 건축의 하나로써 관람 및 휴식을 위한 그늘 쉼터가 되는 캐노피를 설치하여 공원을 변화시키고자 하였다.

이를 위해 디자인 된 Origami Canopy 는 첨단 디지털 기술과 가공 제작 기술이 결합되어 만들어낸 자연 속 쉼터이다. 이는 스마트 건축기술을 활용하여 일상적 공간에 변화를 주고 작은 캐노피 하나로 노후된 건물과 주변 공원 공간을 새로운 공간으로 탈바꿈해주는 스마트에코 쉼터이다.

면재가 접혀서 만들어내는 입체적 형태를 활용하여 디자인된 5M 길이의 캔틸레버 구조체는 건물과 건물 사이의 좁은 틈사이에 위치한다. 상부의 패널은 자동 절곡 방식으로 제작된 Cut-Press 디지털 패브리케이션 복합가공으로, 여러 번의 목업과정을 통해 개발되었다. 특수 가공된 Stainless Steel 패널은 하부공간에 새로운 입체적 패턴으로 자연스러운 빛과 그림자를 만들어낸다. 본 구조물은 밤에는 면으로써 빛을 반사하여 주변의 시선을 모아주면서 서곶 근린 공원의 중심공간이자 랜드마크가 된다.

Seogot Neighborhood Park is a leisure and resting space for communities located in Seo-gu, Incheon. Seo-gu metropolitan office in Incheon wanted to install a canopy that provides a shade for viewing platform and rest in front of the park management office located in the soccer field.

ORIGAMI CANOPY is a 5M long cantilever structure designed using a three-dimensional origami form created by folding steel sheets. Specially processed stainless steel panel is folded through cut-press composite processing using cutting-edge digital fabrication to create soft light and natural shadow pattern in the lower space.

All fabrication processes are made by robots and automated machines in a factory, which are precisely assembled on site. The structural of canopy is creatively designed using the structure of an existing building behind in the narrow gap in-between the existing buildings. It is a canopy attached to the park’s ordinary management office building, but it has become a landmark of the park with a shade shelter and viewing platform for park users.
