일제 강점기, 조선총독부는 세수 확보를 위해 술에 대한 ‘면허제’ 를 실시하고 신고하지 않은 술에 대해서 밀주로 단속하였다. 1920년대 이후로는 사실상 더 이상 발행하지도 않게 되어, 일반 민가에서 술을 빚는 것은 불법적인 일이 되었다.

‘바 이트’ 는 일제강점기의 금주령 시대를 배경으로 하여, 이발소를 통해 비밀스럽게 출입이 가능한 사교클럽이자 한국의 “스피크 이지 바”를 지향한다. (영국에서 이발소: 바버 샵 는 술을 합법적으로 제공하는 공간 중 하나)

외부에서는 이발소 모습으로 노출되어 내부공간은 철저히 은폐되어 있다. 벽체의 일부로 이루어진 히든 도어를 열면, 하나의 클래식한 기차칸 같은 공간이 드러난다. 전체공간은 후면의 동경 거울을 통해 반사되어 깊이감과 확장감을 준다. 후면의 벽 안쪽으로 숨겨진 패닉룸이 있어서 은밀한 음주공간을 제공한다.

During the Japanese colonial period, the Japanese Government-General of Korea implemented a “license system” for alcohol to secure tax revenue, and cracked down on non-reported alcohol as moonshine. After the 1920s, alcohol was virtually no longer issued, making it illegal to brew alcohol in ordinary private houses.

‘Bar it’ is a social club that can be accessed secretly through a barber shop and aims to be Korea’s “Speakeasy Bar”, set in the prohibition period during the Japanese colonial period. (Barbershops in the UK: Barber Shops are one of those places that legally serve alcohol)

From the outside, it is exposed as a barbershop, and the interior space is thoroughly concealed. When the hidden door made up of a part of the wall is opened, a space like a classical train car is revealed. The entire space is reflected through the mirror in the behind, giving a sense of depth and expansion. There is a panic room hidden behind the back wall, providing a secret drinking space.
